New Covers for Unexpected, Can't Stay Away, and Irresistibly Yours!

Hello, lovelies!

I'm excited to share three new covers today. Two of the three are fairly similar to what they were originally, just had a bit of a refresh (size adjustment, font adjustment, etc). But one is very different!

Here's a reminder of the old covers:

Here are the new covers!

New Covers and Blurbs for Resist and Longing!

Friday, October 15, 2021 No comments

Hello, lovelies!

I'm excited to share two new covers and blurbs for the Resist Series today. It's nothing special by any means, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to officially share it on the blog.

Why did I update the covers and change the blurbs? I just felt it was time for a change and the series needed a little bit of an refresh. The covers aren't majorly different, only slightly. This will likely be the last time I have an update on the covers for a long time, though, so no more surprises in the near future.

Here are the old covers:

And here are the new covers:

Here is the new blurb for Resist:

I’m a girl on a mission.

That mission? Have a one-night stand with a stranger.

When my company’s annual meeting comes around, I’m more than happy to travel to New York to break up the monotony of my absent love life. It’ll be nice to enjoy the skyline from my hotel room for the weekend and find that stranger.

Everything’s going according to plan until Devlin Pierce steps out of that elevator.

We met at last year’s event and our chemistry was undeniable. Just when I thought something was about to happen between us, I caught him kissing someone else.

Now he won’t leave me alone and as much as I’m trying to fight it, the pull he has on me is impossible to resist. That’s when he makes an offer I can’t refuse.

One night. It’s all he asks and all I want.

Or is it?

Here is the new blurb for Longing:

It’s been two months since I walked out of Devlin’s hotel room.

Well, two months and five days, but I’m not counting.

I desperately need to move on, but before I can, Devlin shows up… as my new coworker.

As if I wasn’t already losing my mind, seeing him at work every day is making it worse. I try to stay away from him, knowing the effect he has on me, but I can’t. The more I’m around him, the more tempted I am to have something more.

After everything I’ve been through in the past, it’s a slippery slope that may land me in a place I never want to revisit.

There’s something happening to my heart, though. A longing is building up that isn’t one-sided… and doesn’t feel temporary.

He wants me. I want a forever.

Is it possible to have it all?

Pressing Pause: A Kinda, Sorta Hiatus

Monday, August 23, 2021 1 comment

I've been thinking a lot lately.

You already know what this is about based solely on the title of this post, but I'm going to say it straight up: I'm pressing pause on writing and publishing for the time being.

There are a number of reasons why I've decided to do this, which is the purpose of this post. I want to explain what's going on and what has led me to this conclusion.

First of all, I'm dealing with some medical issues. As you may remember me mentioning before, I had surgery in December to remove an ovarian cyst. Unfortunately for me, that wasn't the end of it. The surgeon discovered some potential issues from the lab work done on the cyst and recommended me getting ultrasounds twice a year to monitor my ovary. I went in June to have the ultrasound done and a new cyst was found. The doctor recommended surgery to remove the cyst and ovary.

When I went for my surgical consult (over a month after the ultrasound, my doctor has been booked this summer), she felt for the cyst but was unable to find it. She had me get a second ultrasound at the end of the week to verify if the cyst had gone away. And guess what? Turns out the cyst did either shrink or disappear! Talk about breathing a sigh of relief!

While I'm not going to need surgery, the stress and anxiety of needing a second surgery less than a year out from the first one really threw me. I spent the last two months anticipating it, had already told friends and family, preparing mentally and figuring out financially how we're going to pay for another procedure while we're still paying off the first... Let's just say it hasn't been fun. Plus, even though I'm not having surgery in the near future, my doctor will likely need me to come in again for ultrasounds periodically to make sure everything is okay. Also, this (unfortunately) isn't my only medical issue, but it's the one that is of main concern at the moment.

As I mentioned in the last paragraph, we're still currently paying off the first surgery (and the ER visit that led to surgery). I've been trying to work extra hard with the online businesses I run (an author services business as well as the eBay business I co-own with my husband) so that we can get those bills paid down. Most of my time has been consumed with that along with other daily responsibilities and chores.

When it comes to actual writing, ever since my last new release (last year in September), I've struggled to settle on which story I want to write next. I bounced from story idea to story idea, getting a few hundred or thousand words in before I hit a roadblock or lacked the motivation to continue it due to plot holes or not feeling the storyline. I continued to push through it and try again (and again and again), but kept reaching a dead end. The inspiration was there briefly, but then it would go away.

I thought I knew what I wanted to write and publish next, but it kept changing every couple of weeks or every month. The latest one (a Christmas novella) was the tipping point. I loved the idea and I honestly feel that I could write and publish it this year. However, now that I'm dealing with these medical issues, I already know that setting a deadline this year isn't going to be feasible. Given how little I tend to write anymore, there's just no way I could write, revise, edit, and publish a book before the end of the year.

I'm not exactly sure why I've had so much difficulty with writing this last year, but I will say that I haven't been in the best headspace. Between medical issues and dealing with other pressures and stresses, focusing hasn't been my strong suit. Every day I would sit at the computer and tell myself that once I finish my work for the day, I'll write. Unless I had a goal that I announced online (like during Camp NaNo in April), I wouldn't put forth the effort to write on a regular basis.

There's a false expectation that to be a writer you must be writing all the time. While I don't believe writers should have to write every day or every other day, I do believe that getting out of the habit makes it hard to get back into the habit again. I tend to push myself or take on more than I can handle (that's in general, not just writing), which can lead me to potential burnout. I don't think I've reached burnout, but I've reached something that isn't allowing me to progress with my writing, be it writer's block or something else.

What I know I have reached is a point where I simply need to take a step back and reevaluate. Like, reevaluate everything. I need to ask myself the tough questions: about what I want to do with my time, about what I want to write, where I want to see myself in a year, in two years, in five years, in ten years. Just basically give myself breathing room to consider all of my options and to narrow down the path I would like to take, not only in my author career but with my life.

It's time to press pause, to contemplate everything, and then unpause when I'm ready.

I have no idea how much time this will take, but it's my hope to return to some sort of normalcy in the new year. Giving myself this reprieve will allow me to regroup mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I can self-reflect without the stress of needing to do a thousand and one things to get caught up again.

One thing is for sure: I'll never stop writing. I may have to take a break from it, but I can't not write. The stories are always swirling in my head and I'm always coming up with new ideas. That'll never change.

I don't like pressing pause, especially on things that I love, but sometimes you have to do what's best for you even if it's frustrating or upsetting. And it genuinely is both of those things to me. There have been multiple points where I have been unable to write or publish, especially consistently. It took me three years (between 2016 and 2019) to publish something new. And it feels like I'm in that same moment, where everything is at a standstill and I can't be where I want to be right now.

But that's okay, and I need to learn to be okay with it, to be okay with me being in this place and needing a moment to figure it out.

So, that's what's going on with me at this point and time. In the meantime, I hope that I will continue to see you because I don't plan on disappearing entirely. I'll be around on social media and likely occasionally on this blog. You'll also see me at the end of this year discussing how 2021 has gone and at the beginning of next year making plans for 2022. And once I figure everything out, I'll be here, telling you all about it.

Until then... xoxo,

Lilly Avalon Monthly Writing Update #15 for July 2021

My goal for July: To write more regularly

Did I meet my goal?

I've gotten better, that's for sure! Have I written a lot? That all depends on what your definition of "a lot" is. Personally, I feel like I wrote a lot given the fact that I haven't been writing much these last few months. I managed to get 1200 words in, which isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but it's a lot given my motivation has been lacking and I've been dealing with a lot of unexpected issues in real life.

August Goals

I don't have any specific goals yet again, but I do want to get into a routine. My Facebook memories reminded me recently of how back in 2015 I was hitting 1000 words a day in my WIP (which was Can't Stay Away). While I know I can't hit 1000 words a day every day for several days in a row now, I know that if I put my mind to it I can get a routine in place where I'm writing every day, even if it's for 10-15 minutes.

I've set aside My Roommate's Ex for the time being (will return to it at a later date) and I've picked up a Christmas novella I've been wanting to write for a long time. This one has me giddy because it's a short, sweet, steamy, and silly friends-to-lovers romance.

While I would love to get this one written and published for this upcoming holiday season, it's all going to depend on how things go when it comes to some medical issues I'm having. Remember that ovarian cyst I had removed last December? Well, it grew back. It isn't as big (only 2 cm instead of 10 cm), but it will need to be taken care of, as well as removing the ovary that seems to be the issue. I'm going to be seeing my doctor next week, so I should have a better idea of how things will be from now until the end of the year after speaking with her. Please wish me luck!

Love you all lots! Take care, everybody!

Every month I share an update about what I'm writing in my Monthly Writing Update!

My goal for June: Finish writing and revising bonus scenes for The Risqué Series Boxset and get back to writing My Roommate's Ex.

Did I meet my goal?

Yes on the first! I actually managed to finish the bonus scenes earlier than expected and my editor read over it and sent back notes within days. In the end, I decided to publish it on June 30th instead of early July, so things worked out nicely.

As far as returning to writing My Roommate's Ex, I haven't done that. I pulled up the doc and looked over the last chapter, but I just couldn't find it in me to continue the story at this time. Since I'm over 20k into it, I really wanted to continue to write it so that I can aim to publish the book next year.

July Goals

When it comes to planning for July, the details are still up in the air. I would like to get back to writing regularly again, but what I'm writing may not be what I anticipate. Also, I am currently dealing with some more medical issues which might put a damper on what I'm able to accomplish in the next couple of months. However, given those issues, I would like to try my best to get ahead if possible. Writing something will be better than writing nothing, right? Time will tell how much I'm able to accomplish, but regardless of the total, I'll still be proud of it.

The Risqué Series Boxset Release Day!

Wednesday, June 30, 2021 No comments

It's release day for The Risqué Series Boxset!

Three men. Three unconventional professions. Three romances. The Risqué Series boxset consists of three steamy novellas.

Desiring the Dancer

Carlie Coleman is not looking forward to her stepsister’s bachelorette party. It was supposed to be a simple affair with a small group of Valerie’s closest friends at their parents’ beach house. Instead, the guests have tripled, there’s a fancy caterer, and at some point there will be strippers. It’s going to be a disaster… until she meets the cute waiter.

Enticing the Escort

Goldie Rivers needs a date… and fast. She isn’t showing up to another wedding by herself. The incessant questions about why she’s still single, not to mention the men who won’t leave her alone when they find that out. What’s a girl to do? Hire an escort, of course.

Seducing the Star

Maggie Bloom doesn’t know why she’s at this party. Recently dumped by her serious boyfriend, she would much rather be ringing in the new year at home in her pajamas. If she were there, she wouldn’t have to worry about the midnight kiss. Now she has to figure out what to do and time is running out. Enter Phoenix Westbrook. He’s sexy, he’s nice… and he’s a porn star?

This boxset includes three alternate POV scenes from the perspective of each of the men.

Lilly Avalon Monthly Writing Update #13 for May 2021

Friday, June 4, 2021 No comments

Every month I share an update about what I'm writing in my Monthly Writing Update!
Click here to read April's update. Keep reading to find out the latest for the month of May.

My goal for May: Write as many words as I can

Did I meet my goal?

Nope. Honestly, May wasn't the greatest month for writing for me. After hitting my NaNoWriMo goal in April of 10,000 words, I took a step back for a few days to regroup. My husband and I went to Kentucky to visit family from May 6th to 9th (which was fun), then when we returned we had to take care of taxes (which was a nightmare).

Instead of continuing with My Roommate's Ex, I decided to switch gears and work on the bonus scenes for The Risqué Series. While I wasn't productive with new words, I was at least working on something. I managed to get two of the three bonus scenes written, so that was the extent of my writing for May.

June Goals

The main goal for June will be to finish writing and revising, then get edits on the bonus scenes. That way I will hopefully be able to publish the boxset of The Risqué Series in July. I would also like to get back to writing My Roommate's Ex, too, but I don't have any specific goals for that. If I can get a chapter or two written, that would be great. Also, since it's been a while since I've written anything, I need to reconfigure the timeline of events and make sure everything is right. That shouldn't take too long, though.

Writing and Publishing Goals for 2021

Wednesday, May 19, 2021 No comments

Hello lovelies!

Today I'm going to be talking to you about what you can expect from me this year. There are all sorts of fabulous stories that I planned to write and publish in 2021, but I have changed these plans at least a dozen times. There are a million reasons why this occurredtwo of the biggest are that I don't write as quickly as I'd like to and it took me forever to even settle on what to write. There are definitely other factors (mostly to do with IRL setbacks and obstacles), but those two are the main issues.

After I finished writing and editing The Risqué Series, I had every intention of writing something new right away. Instead, I spent months starting and stopping several stories after writing one, two, or three chapters. To say it was frustrating is an understatement.

When I finally found something, I was ecstatic. Yay for words flowing again! I had some off days and moments when I strayed from the outline, but it's okay. That can be fixed during revisions, right? No biggie.

Here's the deal, though. This new story needs to be handled with care. The title is My Roommate's Ex, so there's the element of a forbidden romance and keeping secrets. I don't want my readers to hate the protagonist or her love interest, but I have a feeling some of them will. Plus, the protagonist has a co-worker who is going to get her own book. I'd hate to publish my current WIP and not have the next book in the series available until a year later (slow writer, y'all). This makes me wonder if maybe I should finish my WIP, then set it aside to publish next year to give myself enough time to fix any issues as well as write the second book. So, I'm currently considering this as a possibility.

Also, I have two other projects that I would like to publish this year. The one is a boxset of The Risqué Series, which I would like to write bonus scenes for, and the other one is a secret. I don't like being vague, but I don't want to announce anything on this one until I have it written in full. I will say that it is a novella, but that's all I can divulge at this time.

Last year, I wanted nothing more than to get back on a regular publishing schedule. Of course, life gets in the way, along with other things. Fortunately, as an indie author, I'm able to change deadlines and potential release dates around before announcing them publicly. And hopefully I'll have more details regarding my next release very soon.

Thank you for reading and listening to me ramble a bit about what's to come!

Camp NaNoWriMo: April 2021

Wednesday, May 5, 2021 No comments

Hello lovelies!

It's time for a wrap-up of how Camp NaNoWriMo went for me in April! I really enjoy participating in Camp NaNo in the spring because I can set my own goal. NaNoWriMo in November has the automatic goal of 50,000 words and that's a tough goal for me to reach in a month. I would love to get to the point where I'm able to write 1667 words consistently every day, but it will take some time. In the meantime, Camp NaNo is where it's at for me!

My goal for April was 10,000 words. That comes out to 334 words per day. On a good writing sprint (10-15 minutes), I'm able to write between 250-350 words. I figured that as long as I can get one writing sprint in per day (or double up when I miss a day), I can reach this goal.

Take a look at my daily word counts for all of April to see how I did!

GOAL = 10,000 words

April 1st = 400
April 2nd = 556
April 3rd = 0
April 4th = 178
April 5th = 457
April 6th = 251
April 7th = 215
April 8th = 156
April 9th = 467
April 10th = 505
April 11th = 494
April 12th = 319
April 13th = 229
April 14th = 499
April 15th = 366
April 16th = 540
April 17th = 648
April 18th = 877
April 19th = 306
April 20th = 100
April 21st = 369
April 22nd = 735
April 23rd = 418
April 24th = 555
April 25th = 92
April 26th = 326
April 27th = 0
April 28th = 0
April 29th = 0
April 30th = 0

TOTAL = 10,058 words

As you can see, I had a spectacular month of writing. I managed to finish early, which is why the last 4 days have 0 for the word count (I took a break). All of the words written in April got added to the grand total in my work in progress, bringing it to 20,932 words!

I'm about halfway through the story and I'm hoping to be able to have it finished sometime this summer. My original goal was to have this book available this summer/fall, but I'm unsure what my plans will be at the moment. I'll post an update this month regarding my potential writing and publishing plans for the rest of 2021. In the meantime...

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful week!

Lilly Avalon Monthly Writing Update #12 for April 2021

Friday, April 30, 2021 No comments

Every month I share an update about what I'm writing in my Monthly Writing Update!
Here's the latest for the month of April.

If you look at my March update, my main goal was to participate in Camp NaNoWriMo with the word count goal of 10,000 words.

Have I accomplished this?

YES! I am so pleased to say that I managed to meet my goal of 10,000 words this month. On April 26th, I hit 10,058 words, which brings the grand total of my WIP to 20,932 words. I had a really good first two days, then I missed a day and had some low word counts for a few days. I got caught up and managed to remain consistent and ahead which allowed me to finish early.

While I could have continued and gotten another 500-1000 words, I decided to give this WIP a short break for a few days. I love this story, but there is so much that I need to fix to prevent any continuity errors as well as adding in the correct details. I had written an outline up to a certain point, yet I've deviated from that outline so much along the way that I feel I may have some potential issues. Those will hopefully all be corrected during revisions.

Goals for May

I would love to get as many words written as I possibly can in May. As far as a word count goal goes, I'm kind of leaving it up in the air for now. Aiming for 10k would be optimal, but I don't want to force it, even though 323 words a day is reachable. My husband and I are going to be visiting family one weekend, so I don't want to aim too high when I won't be able to write for a few days. But I promise I will keep writing as much as I can!

If you want to keep up with my progress, I'll be posting occasionally on my social media about it, so be sure to follow me.

Love you all lots! Take care, everybody!

Lilly Avalon Monthly Writing Update #11 for March 2021

Wednesday, March 31, 2021 No comments

Every month I share an update about what I'm writing in my Monthly Writing Update!
Here's the latest for the month of March.

If you look at my February update, my main goal was to write 7500-10,000 words in my WIP.

Have I accomplished this?

Unfortunately, I didn't, but I did manage to get just 6,103 words (as of last night), so that still feels great! There were, of course, several ups and downs as well as days I simply didn't want to write, but I still managed to get a decent number of words written. This story has had some slight changes along the way, so the original outline has been adapted a bit here and there. The main story still remains the same, but there are new scenes being added as I go.

My total for this book is currently sitting at 10,874, which means I've broken the 10k barrier for revealing the title to my Facebook group! If you want to see what it is, join my group.

Goals for April

April is Camp NaNoWriMo! I'll be participating again this year. Last year I had the goal of writing 12,000 words to finish writing Seducing the Star and I managed to finish writing it in fewer words. While I didn't hit the goal for Camp NaNo last year, it was still an accomplishment.

My goal for the month is 10,000 words. I've decided to aim low, but still higher than I did in March. At 10k, I need to do 334 words a day, which I feel is manageable for me. I can knock out that in one sprint on a good day, plus easily make up for lost days by doing two or three sprints! If you're participating in Camp NaNoWriMo next month, let's become buddies on the website!

If I can get 10k next month, that will mean I'll be about halfway through writing this book. I haven't decided what my goals for May are just yet, but there's a good chance I'll aim to finish the book if I feel confident enough.

If you want to keep up with my progress, I'll be posting occasionally on my social media about it, so be sure to follow me.

Lilly Avalon Monthly Writing Update #10 for February 2021

Friday, February 26, 2021 No comments

Every month I share an update about what I'm writing in my Monthly Writing Update!
Here's the latest for the month of February.

If you look at my January update, my main goal was to write 7500-10,000 words in my WIP.

Have I accomplished this?

Not quite. I had a rough start of it at the beginning of the month. It took me forever to complete the first chapter, and once I did write it, I still wasn't 100% sure it was exactly what I wanted. Even though it wasn't perfect, it was still a good start. That good start can be fixed during revisions later. I made myself some notes of things to adjust in it and I know that once I'm in revision mode, I'll be able to see more clearly the direction I want it to go in.

The grand total as of yesterday is 4429 (mostly from only TWO chapters), which is still a mighty fine number if I do say so myself.

Goals for March

To keep on writing as much as I can! I would like to aim for 7500-10,000 again and see if I can do it this time around. April is Camp NaNoWriMo, so if I can get myself on track with my daily word counts, I should be able to participate and possibly finish writing the first draft of this book (or at the very least come very close!).

If you want to keep up with my progress, I'll be posting occasionally on my social media about it, so be sure to follow me.

Love you all lots! Take care, everybody!

Lilly Avalon Monthly Writing Update #9 for January 2021

Friday, January 29, 2021 No comments

Every month I share an update about what I'm writing in my Monthly Writing Update!
Here's the latest for the month of January.

If you look at my December update, my main goal was to finish outlining my latest WIP and start writing it.

Have I accomplished this?

Yes! I managed to finish outlining this new story, as well as writing up character profiles to reference. The character profiles took some time to finish but weren't as difficult as I thought they would be. I haven't gotten too far into actually writing the story, however I'm still proud of being able to finally get it started after all this time of not really writing. It's a good feeling to be writing again.

I'm not very far into the story yet (only on the first couple of chapters), and the word count isn't very high (less than 3000), but it's still more progress than I could have done a month or two ago.

Goals for February

To continue the story! I would like to aim for 7,500-10,000 words this month. That way I have a low goal and a stretch goal if I'm doing well. I mean, I'd love to do much more than that, but it is a 28 day month and I'm still kind of a slow writer. However, it's my hope that my outline and character profiles will assist in getting the story written a little quicker than before. Once I reach the 10,000-word mark, I will be announcing the title of the book! I changed the title twice already, so let's hope the one I have now sticks.

If you want to keep up with my progress, I'll be posting occasionally on my social media about it, so be sure to follow me.

Love you all lots! Take care, everybody!

Happy New Year and Hello 2021!

Happy New Year, lovelies! It's 2021!

With how chaotic and terrible 2020 was, I'm glad to have that year behind me. While I know 2021 isn't going to be perfect given everything currently happening, I still have the hope that things will get better. We'll make progress toward eradicating coronavirus and we'll heal as a society.

This year, I want to take steps toward more of my personal and professional goals. I tend to reach too high and become upset when I can't achieve what I planned on doing every year. This time I'm going to be reasonable with myself. My surgery may be over and I may be recovering on schedule, but I still have to pace myself.

Near the beginning of December, one of my recent story ideas popped back into my mind and I decided that maybe I should go with it. The story doesn't need a whole lot of research, planning, storyboarding, or mapping. It's a simple steamy forbidden romance standalone novel. I came up with character names and outlined (most of) it, so I'm hoping to make that my first book of 2021.

Other than that book, I have a few other ideas in the works. I don't want to go into too many details as these books are in the very beginning stages and may not be ready to write this year, but I will hopefully have more information to share about these upcoming projects soon.

Ultimately, I just want to take my time and write what I can when I can with no pressure to meet any major deadlines. My goal is to publish at least 3 books, but maybe more depending on how things go. Wish me luck!

I promise to keep you all updated with the latest news whenever it's available! Take care!
